Mental health is as important as fitness in combat sports, says judoka Avtar Singh
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Sports Authority of India (SAI), Bhopal judoka Avtar Singh has won a gold medal in the -100kg category at the 2022 National Games. Sharing the information, SAI coach Yashpal Solanki said, “I I feel good to share that Avtar won a gold medal, and we also hope to win two more medals in other events.”
In a phone conversation with a Free Press reporter, Olympian Avtar Singh said: “I am happy to have won a gold medal, but I would be more excited if it was an international gold medal. I also won a gold medal in the 2015 National Games. Everything was great here.”
The Olympian added: “I am happy to see that different states are now focusing on sports and appreciating the athletes by offering them cash prizes. As an athlete, I think we can use this amount for the international training and strengthen our game.”
While talking about the mental health of athletes, Avtar Singh focused on international athlete camps. He said: “People don’t realize how important mental health is during tournaments. We are always under a lot of pressure, and I feel relieved about that, we should be sent to as many international camps as possible.”
He added: “An athlete should only be responsible for their event. But most of the time we are concerned about our visas and our formalities. I think athletes have to be managed properly, so our only goal is to win. “
The Olympian also mentioned he would participate in the Abu Dhabi Grand slam and setting his sights higher; he prepares the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
